OUR HISTORY

Winegrowers in Lerín since 1356

The history of Bodegas Alconde is the history of the winegrowers of Lerín, in the Ribera Alta of Navarra. Since Roman times, the production and enjoyment of wine has formed part of the history of our town. Just 10 minutes away from Bodegas Alconde is the Roman Villa of Arellano, where it is still possible to appreciate vestiges of its relationship with the world of wine.

In medieval times, significant quantities of wine were already being sent from Lerín to supply neighbouring regions such as Álava and La Rioja. All of this is recorded in La Saca of 1356, a document which, by order of the Crown of Navarre, contained the records of this national export of the wine produced in the town.

In total, 96,000 litres left Lerín in just five months, an amount that shows its importance as a wine-making centre.

Since then, the people of Lerín have been passing down from generation to generation, from parents to children, all the knowledge accumulated uninterruptedly over time.

Today, these winegrowers from Lerín continue to maintain all that wisdom to know the soils, read the conditions set by the climate of the area, use the techniques that the vineyard demands and extract from the grapes everything that represents the uniquenessof a land where the vine has put down its roots for centuries.

NEW CHALLENGES

Sustainability through clean agriculture and winemaking is a commitment of Bodegas Alconde. Beyond the certificates that accredit it, it is a responsibility to the legacy that we have received and with which we want to leave as a legacy.

“A group of winegrowers, who learned the secrets of the vineyard by listening to and accompanying our grandparents, we want to maintain and pass on everything that for us meant a childhood impregnated with the smell of the winery, the wine, the earth and the sun of La Sarda. For this reason, we continue to believe in this project that for us began centuries ago and continues to link us to the land of the town of Lerín”.
