WINE GROWERS OF LERÍN

Generation toGeneration Knowledge

We are in Lerín, in Navarra, in an area with a long tradition of vine growing and wine making. As early as 1356 we have the first document of wine exports from Navarre to the Basque Country and La Rioja.

The area is ideal for winemaking because we have a very favourable climate and soil. The average age of our vineyards is over 60 years and in some cases the vines are over 100 years old. As a result, our wines are balanced, fruity, full of colour but very round and pleasant. They are elegant.

Our philosophy is to practice clean, rational and environmentally friendly viticulture. We understand that the grape has to be in communion with a nature of which we ourselves are a part. We cannot have an impact on it.

At Bodegas Alconde, in the village of Lerín, we bring together the whole tradition of winemaking that dates back to Roman times. We are local winegrowers, we are from here, we are Lerineses and we have been growing vines and making wine for many, many generations.

In fact, we don’t even know from when because it is not documented. We only know that our grandparents, our grandparents’ grandparents and their grandparents… all made wine.

REGENERATIVE VITICULTURE

The Vineyard against Climate Change

Regenerative Viticulture promotes the fight against climate change through the recovery of agricultural soil: the soil is the main carbon reservoir and if we are able to maintain its biodiversity, its microorganisms and organic matter, we will contribute to recovering its fertility, while improving food quality.

Bodegas Alconde has already transformed 52 of its 150 hectares of vineyards into Regenerative Viticulture, seeking to regenerate the soil so that it recovers the state it had before the arrival of intensive agriculture, in such a way that it resembles a forest as much as possible.

Regenerative Viticulture seeks to restore the vineyard to its biodiversity and fertility through exclusively natural methods and processes. Instead of going against nature, it seeks to harness and enhance its mechanisms to achieve healthier and higher quality products, totally eliminating the use of chemical products, while helping to reverse desertification and climate change.

WHERE ARE WE?

Lerín, Ribera Alta de Navarra.

THE ORIGIN OF OUR WINES

Our wines come from the vineyards that surround the village of Lerín, in an area with ideal characteristics for growing vines due to the quality of its soils and climate.

DENOMINATION OF ORIGIN NAVARRA

The Navarra DO is one of the oldest in Spain and stands out for the variety of soils and for being an area where the Atlantic, Mediterranean and continental climates converge, giving rise to complex and elegant wines.

RIBERA ALTA DE NAVARRA

One of the five zones into which the DO Navarra is divided. Its relief is gentle, with soils of aluvial origin, which facilitates drainage. The climate is warmer than in the north and Tempranillo is the most widespread grape variety.

NATURAL ENVIRONMENT AND HERITAGE

The whole region is an area of great natural and heritage diversity. Just a few kilometres away is the Arellano Archaeological Site, with numerous Roman remains related to wine production.
